Shirley J. Rhome
Shirley J. Rhome, 84, of Canonsburg, died Sunday, January 12, 2020, in her home, surrounded by her family.
She was born in Washington, a daughter of the late Carl and Dorothy Salisberry Phillips.
Shirley was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a baker at Canonsburg Hospital and was later employed by the Washington-Greene County job training agency and Southwest Training Services as an intake case worker, until her retirement.
She loved cooking and baking and enjoyed word search puzzles, flowers and crafting and vacationing in Myrtle Beach, S.C. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, many book clubs and a 500 bid card club. She always had time to “lend an ear” and was always there for her family.
On July 9, 1955, she married Howard F. Rhome, with whom she shared more than 60 years of marriage, who died July 18, 2015.
Surviving are her sons, David H. (Kimberly) Rhome and Dale A. (Jody) Rhome, both of Canonsburg; her daughter, Darla J. Rhome of Canonsburg; three grandchildren, Amy Lynn (Justin) Smith, Stacy Marie Rhome and Carly Elizabeth Rhome; three great-grandchildren, Austin David Smith, Brayden Michael Smith and Hunter Joseph Rubis; her brother, Albert Brown of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Sollon Funeral and Cremation Services Ltd., 30 East College Street, Canonsburg, Phillip L. Sollon, supervisor, 724-746-1000. The Order of Eastern Star will hold a service in the funeral home at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 16, in Canonsburg United Presbyterian Church, 112 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, PA 15317. Friends and family are asked to meet at the church. Burial will follow in Oak Spring Cemetery, Canonsburg.
