Paul W. Popeck
Paul W. Popeck, 73, of Canonsburg, died Saturday, January 25, 2020, in Sunrise Senior Care Nursing Home.
He was born March 24, 1946, in Canonsburg, a son of Frank and Sophia Pokrzywa Popeck.
Paul was a lifelong Canonsburg resident, where he was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. He was a graduate of Canon-McMillan High School, The Pittsburgh Art Institute and proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force.
Paul was a plasterer and worked with several companies and also with his father and uncles, George and Frank Popeck Plastering Contractors, for several years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the American Legion.
Surviving are his sister, Barbara J. (William) Obenchain of Green Valley, Ariz.; brother Joseph R. (Linda) Popeck of Libertyville, Ill.; his dear friend and companion, Mary Jane Ranney; nephews Matthew Obenchain and Joe Popeck; and nieces Victoria Obenchain and Ruth Popeck.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Frank J. Popeck.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday in Sollon Funeral and Cremation Services Ltd., 30 East College Street, Canonsburg, Phillip L. Sollon, supervisor, 724-746-1000. Departing prayer service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, February 1, in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick Church, Canonsburg.
Burial will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, McMurray, with full military rites accorded by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org, in Paul’s name.
