Marlene Hostinsky Tkach, 84, passed away peacefully Monday, June 15, 2020.

She was born in Monroe, Mich., March 24, 1936, a daughter of Steve and Josephine Kolovich Hostinsky. As a child, her family moved back to their hometown of Strabane, where she lived her entire life.

In 1957, Marlene married Francis “Fritz” Tkach. They had three children, Diane (Timothy) Lyda of Pittsburgh, Ronald (Sara Taylor) Tkach of Canonsburg and Susan (William) Tuttle of North Wales, and two grandchildren, Jessica and Robert Tuttle, also of North Wales.

Preceding her in death were her wonderful husband, Fritz, and her oldest brother, Raymond Hostinsky.

She is survived by a brother, Richard (Joyce) Hostinsky of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two sisters-in-law, Grace Tkach Vidoni and Janet Tkach Logsdon, both of Bridgeville; along with many nieces and nephews, a stepgranddaughter and a stepgreat-granddaughter.

Marlene was an active member of her community. She was active in the Carniolan Slovene Catholic Union (K.S.K.J.), serving as an auditor for Lodge #153; the Slovene National Benefit Society (S.N.P.J.) #138, where she bowled and was involved in the activities of the lodge; St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Canonsburg, where for many years she served in the Christian Mothers, and the Slovenian Union Organization, Zarja. More than anything, she and her husband enjoyed their family, their friends, and their love of Slovenian music. She danced until the end, spreading the joy of polka music and her Slovenian heritage to all.

Marlene lived the past two years at Strabane Woods, where she made many friends. But above all, her treasured friendships with her life-long, closest group “the girls” sustained her; they remained by her side throughout her life, and she and her family will be forever grateful.

Friends and family are welcome from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services Inc., Joseph P. Salandra LFD, owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120, where departing prayers will be recited at 9:40 a.m. Saturday, June 20. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick Church, 317 West Pike Street, Canonsburg. Interment will take place in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to The American Slovenian Radio Hour, 381 F- Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15209, or OSPTA Hospice, 4325 State Route 51 North, Belle Vernon, PA 15012.
