Rhoma Jean Campbell
Rhoma Jean Campbell, 95, passed away peacefully Friday, May 1, 2020, in Weymouth, Mass., where she had been living, at Windrose, for the past 18 months. Rhoma was born November 15, 1924, in Jonesboro, Ind., a daughter of the late Albert E. Brumley (stepmother Dorothy) and Alma Brumley Macy. She spent most of her adult life in the Washington area.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her children, Charles H. Schmitt Jr. of Quincy, Mass., Stanley J. “Jack” Schmitt of Coshocton, Ohio, Kathleen A. Wiley of Norwell, Mass., and William H. Campbell of Washington. She also had two grandchildren, whom she adored, Charles L. Schmitt of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Beth A. Sullivan (Timothy) of Dorchester, Mass.; as well as two great-grandchildren, Ryan Sullivan and Christian Sullivan. In addition, she is survived by her sister, Alberta Egle; and her brothers, Bernard Brumley, Albert E. Brumley Jr. and David Brumley, all of whom live in Indiana. She also leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews.
Deceased are her husband, Wilmer J. Campbell; her sister, Ann Sanborn; and her brother, John Brumley.
Rhoma was an amazing and loving person who always enjoyed celebrating life, enjoying her family and bringing a smile to everyone’s face. She was a member of the Washington Area Senior Center Singers and Dancers in the 1990s, which provided local entertainment for local senior homes and events. She worked for 25 years at the JCPenney store in the Washington Mall, where she sold cosmetics and was best known for her perfect red hair. She loved to travel with her family and friends.
