James J. Romano Jr.
James J. “Pooch” Romano Jr., 90, of Canonsburg, passed away Thursday, November 5, 2020, in Canonsburg Hospital. He was born August 4, 1930, in Mingo Junction, Ohio, a son of the late James and Loretta Crisafi Romano.
Jim lived most of his life in Canonsburg, where he graduated from Canonsburg High School Class of 1949 and served as a councilman for 14 years. Prior to his retirement, Jim had been employed in safety at Dynamet in Washington.
He was a member of the Holy Rosary worship site of Oscar Romero Parish following the closing of St. Genevieve Roman Catholic Church, proudly served with the United States Navy during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion Post 902 in Houston.
On June 26, 1954, he married Patricia L. Kiger, who passed away November 27, 2014.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his three sons, James Romano (Debbie Queen) of Washington, John (Linda D’Amico) Romano of Canonsburg and Jay (Cathy Cianelli) Romano of Cecil Township; five grandchildren, Carli (Jason) Pitcock, Jamie (Klint) Peters, Jimmy, Jayson and Jaret (Daisy) Romano; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Jim was the last of his immediate family. Deceased, in addition to his wife and parents, is his brother, Frank Romano.
Friends and relatives are welcome from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, November 12, in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra LFD, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120, where a Catholic blessing service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, November 13. Interment will follow at 10:30 a.m. in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township, with full military honors by VFW Post 191 of Canonsburg Honor Guard and the United States Navy.
