Harry G. Scales

Harry G. Scales, 82, of Bentleyville, passed away Friday, April 16, 2021, in his home.

He was born November 2, 1938, in Monessen, a son of the late Donald Scales and Golda Newhouse and stepfather Eino Suomela.

Mr. Scales was a 1956 graduate of Monessen High School.

From 1956 to 1959, he honorably served his country with the U.S. Army

Harry was employed as a customer service technician for Peoples Natural Gas Co. working out of the New Eagle facility. He was a member of the 666 Operators Union. Mr. Scales retired after 26 years of service.

Mr. Scales was a member of the Gas Co. Club of the Peoples Gas retirees.

He attended the First Christian Church of Monessen and later attended the Calvary Church of the Nazarene, Coal Center.

Harry was known for always being ready to help others. He was well versed in carpentry and was able to repair anything.

He was an avid motorcycle rider and enjoyed riding his Harley more than anything. His collection of motorcycles, cars and tractors was quite extensive.

Harry also enjoyed country music, especially country gospel.

On February 14, 1975, he married Joanne Pappert, who survives. They celebrated 46 years of marriage.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three children, Jeffrey Scales (Christina) of Long Branch, Beth Brovey (Jim) of Bentleyville and Rebecca Salisbury (William E. Jr.) of Bentleyville; two brothers, Rodney Scales of Monessen and Marvin Scales of the state of Indiana; eight grandchildren, Alexander Scales, Elizabeth Brokenshire (Andrew), Victoria Scales, Grace Scales, Emilee Brovey, Nathan Brovey, Elijah Salisbury and Madison Salisbury; and one great-grandson, Knox Scales.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, is a sister, Patricia Sanders.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, in Greenlee’s Bentleyville Funeral Home, 619 Main Street, Bentleyville, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 21, with Pastor Jeffrey Marton officiating. Interment will follow in Howe Cemetery, Coal Center.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to OSPTA Hospice, 4325 State Route 51 North, Belle Vernon, PA 15012.
