Sam Conti, 91, a longtime resident of Clarksville (Besco), passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2021, in his home.

He was born September 6, 1929, in Sandy Run, a son of the late Adam and Geovanna Paci Conti.

Mr. Conti attended East Beth High School and proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1947. For his service, he was awarded the World War II Victory Medal.

Sam was employed as a truck driver with PennDOT for more than 35 years retiring in 1991.

He was a lifetime member of the Hanson-Cole American Legion Post #391 in Fredericktown.

Sam loved spending time with his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, gardening and thrift shopping.

On December 3, 1955, he married Elsie J. Conti, who died March 12, 2003. They celebrated 47 years of marriage.

Surviving are three children, Connie Ricciuti (Michael) of Ravenna, Ohio, Samuel Conti (Marlene Greene) of Fredericktown and Michael Conti (Billie Jo) of Ravenna; six grandchildren, Danielle Lamerson, Jennifer Conti, Ashley McCullons, Justine Welsh, Larissa Eperesi and Michael Conti Jr.; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Josephine Manni of Pontiac, Mich.; a brother, James Conti of Clarksville; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his wife, are two brothers, Adam “Sonny” Conti Jr. and Louis Conti.

Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, August 2, in Greenlee’s Fredericktown Funeral Home, Ltd., 42 Bank Street at Crawford Road, Fredericktown, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 3, with Pastor David McElroy officiating. Entombment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park. Military rites will be accorded by the U.S. Army and the Hanson-Cole American Legion Post #391.
