John Edward McAnany Sr.
John Edward McAnany Sr., 81, of Washington, passed away Sunday, August 1, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 26, 1940, in Westland, a son of the late Edward and Jean A. Hotchkiss McAnany.
John was a graduate of Hickory High School. He began his career in the coal and steel industry working for Consol for several years. John then worked for National Steel in Weirton, W.Va., and US Steel, which was eventually bought out by Clark Labs, where he retired after many years of service to care for his mother-in-law and brother-in-law.
John never met a stranger and was known to be a social butterfly. He was always the life of the party and the last one to leave the dance floor. John enjoyed listening to Alan Jackson gospel music, traveling to the beach and was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan, watching the Pirates, Steelers and Pitt Panthers. He had a special place in his heart for animals, making animal friends everywhere he went. John was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and cherished the time he spent with his family.
On June 27, 1970, he married Barbara Kostelich, who survives. Also left behind to cherish his memory are his son, John E. (Melanie) McAnany Jr. of Clarksville; daughters Jeanne (Gary) Terrill of Claysville and Jennifer (Satevea Mahan) McAnany of Washington; grandchildren Amber and Adam McAnany of Clarksville, Alex Engel of Eagle, Colo., and Audra Terrill of Claysville; brother Louis McAnany of Arizona; sister Maxine Balazy of Washington; and his beloved dog and best friend, Lilly.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are his brother, Danny McAnany; and sisters Norma Jean McAnany and Marion McAnany.
