Ruth Marie Burrell Laws, born December 14, 1930, in Hamilton, Ohio, passed away peacefully, in her home, Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at the age of 90, surrounded by Georgie, her loving husband of 70+ years, and her family.

Georgie and Ruthie met as teenagers attending the same Sunday school class at the Salvation Army, Washington, where Ruth’s parents, Hedley and Linnie Burrell, were Salvation Army officers. They were childhood sweethearts and were married by Ruth’s father in 1950.

Ruth was the May Queen of her graduating class 1948 of Washington High School. After graduating from Penn Commercial in 1949, Ruth worked as a bookkeeper with Washington & Jefferson College in Washington.

After moving to Florida in 1971, she worked in Florida Bank Industries and retired from Broward County Schools in 1994.

Ruth and George have been committed Christians all their lives and active members of the churches they have attended: The Salvation Army, Church of the Covenant, Parkway Christian Church, Fort Lauderdale First Baptist Church, and currently Plantation Community Church. They have actively participated in the Covenant Living retirement community with their many loving friends.

George and Ruth Laws are the proud parents of four adult children (and their spouses), Judy Natwick (Gary) of Satellite Beach, Fla., Janie Aquilino (Tony, deceased) of Atlanta, Ga., George Laws (deceased) and Tom Laws (Cathy) of Austin, Texas. They have been blessed over the years sharing the lives and activities of 11 grown, wonderful grandchildren, Brian, Erik, Jason, Richard (deceased), Ryan, Ashley-Jane, Chip, Kara, Melissa, Brad and Lisa, who are the parents to their 20 beautiful, fun and accomplished great-grandchildren.

Ruth’s joy in life was raising her growing family, serving her church and others, Masonic activities as worthy matron of Lincoln Chapter #112 of the Eastern Star and Rainbow Girls Advisory Board in Washington. Mostly, she spent her time “loving, supporting and keeping her Georgie out of trouble”. Ruth lived her life verse: Proverbs 3:5-6, passing its simple message onto all her children and grandchildren: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; and lean not onto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths.”

Ruth is also survived by her siblings and their spouses, Muriel (Geoffrey, both deceased), Myrtle Brownson (William, deceased), Marion Fritz (Howard), and Hedley Burrell (Ellen) and sister-in-law Janie Laws Jones (Richard, deceased); and so many loved nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to all the wonderful caregivers, who served and loved on Miss Ruth as we walked these past two difficult years.

At the request of the deceased, all services are private.

Arrangements have been entrusted to William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, PA 15301.
