Lois Mae Smith Hunt
Lois “Katie” Mae Smith Hunt, 88, of Wellsburg, W.Va., passed away peacefully Friday, August 6, 2021, in Stonerise, Wellsburg.
Katie was born April 23, 1933, in Short Creek, W.Va., a daughter of the late Everett Smith and Ila Spencer Smith.
Katie was a 56-year member of Independence United Methodist Church, where she served as Sunday school superintendent and treasurer for 40 plus years. Katie worked as an in home caregiver.
Many will remember Katie for camping in her younger years, crafts, baked goods and her seamstress work, but most of all spending holidays with her family, dedicating her life to them being the backbone and the heart.
In addition to her parents, Katie was preceded in death by her two children, Burt Hunt III and Diane Hunt; twin grandsons; all of her siblings, Ernest, Ralph, Earl, Gene, Edward, Donald and Bob Smith, Betty Ruth Harris, two sets of twin boys and two girls, Hazel and Blanche.
Katie is survived by her husband of 70 plus years, Burt Edward Hunt Jr.; three children, Patricia Lowe of St. Clairsville, Ohio, Susan Stimpson and husband Larry of Wellsburg, and Kitty Elliott and husband Tim of Bethany, W.Va.; nine grandchildren, Jeremy (Amanda) and Christopher Lowe, Jill (Bill) Littler, Michael (Lisa) Stimpson, Jennifer (Scott) Taggart, Joshua Elliott, Alisha (Scott) Medlen, Jessica Elliott and Melissa Hunt; 22 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, August 8, and from 10 until the 11 a.m. time of a funeral service Monday, August 9, in Chambers Funeral Home, Wellsburg (304)737-3551, with Kendra Huffman officiating.
Interment will follow at Kadesh Chapel Cemetery, Beech Bottom, W.Va.
