Lucille Schuster LeCouvre

Lucille Schuster LeCouvre, a resident of Allegro in Fleming Island, Fla., died Sunday, August 1, 2021, at the age of 100. She was born November 22, 1920, in Midway, to Michael and Stella Gilles Schuster.

Lucille graduated from Midway High School in 1938 and went on to earn her B.S. degree in Household Economics from Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1942. During her career, Lucille served as president of Pittsburgh Home Economists in Business and as president of the Pennsylvania Home Economist Association.

Mrs. LeCouvre received three American Gas Association awards for Outstanding Public Relations and Marketing Programs. As a representative of the American Gas Association, she gave cooking demonstrations in the Gas Pavilion at the 1964 New York World’s Fair. She also served on the committee for the standardization of oven and surface cooking utensils and also worked with designer Tom Lamb in the development of handles for a leading cutlery firm. Lucille was manager of consumer services before retiring from Equitable Gas Company in 1983.

Lucille married her high school classmate, Leonard LeCouvre in October of 1984 in Las Vegas, Nev., and retired to San Diego, Calif., where she and her husband enjoyed retirement, travelling and spending time with family and friends.

Mrs. LeCouvre served on the board of the Rancho Bernardo Community Library. Following the loss of her husband, Lucille moved to Allegro in Fleming Island in 2015 to be closer to her nieces and nephews. Along with visiting the local area, she remained an avid reader and contributed to the large print section in the Allegro Library.

In November, Lucille celebrated her 100th birthday during the pandemic with many of the staff and residents of Allegro in attendance.

Mrs. LeCouvre was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. Leonard LeCouvre, USAF Retired; and her brother, Captain Robert J. Schuster, USNR Retired.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Mrs. Shirley Schuster of Ft. Myers, Fla.; and her children, Michael Schuster of St. Simon Island, Ga., Shann Schuster Mills of Jacksonville, Fla., Lt. Col. Daniel Schuster, USMC Retired of Fernandina Beach, Fla., Robert Schuster Jr. of Houston, Texas, and Pamela Schuster Spann of Ft. Myers; and her stepdaughter, Michelle LeCouvre King of Louisville, Ky.

Lucille will be interred with her husband at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
