Richard L. Crothers
Richard L. Crothers, 81, of Strabane, passed away peacefully, Thursday, August 5, 2021, in his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born June 14, 1940, in McDonald, a son of William and Pauline Speck Crothers.
Mr. Crothers was a 1960 graduate of Washington High School and was employed for 25 years at Cooper Power Systems in Canonsburg.
Following high school Richard served with the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1963.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 in Canonsburg, American Legion Post 902 in Houston and the Canonsburg Sportsman’s Club.
Mr. Crothers loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing poker machines.
On June 20, 1964, he married Kathy “Cern” Kerr, his wife of 57 years, who survives.
Also surviving are four children, Audrey Oklota (John) of Pittsburgh, Richard Crothers of Canonsburg, Todd Crothers of Laurel Hill, Fla. and Katie Crothers of Canonsburg; eight grandchildren, Anthony and Lexie Oklota and Zac, Dalton, Cheyenne, Victoria, Bobby and Brady Crothers; a great-grandson, Jaxon Crothers; his foster grandson, Harley Pettigrew; several nieces and nephews; and two of his best friends, Mel Adkins and Butch McGant.
Deceased are four brothers, Bob, Harry, Jim and William Crothers; and three sisters, Betty Smalley, Pearl Crothers and Mary Jane Beida.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, in the McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, Owner/Supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342, where services will be held at 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, August 10. Interment will follow in the National Cemetery of the Allleghenies. Full military rites will be accorded by the VFW Post 191 Honor Guard.
