On Friday, August 6, 2021, Roy D. Moffitt, 83, passed away peacefully, in East Greenbush, N.Y.

Born in McKeesport, to Roy W. Moffitt and Jane B. Moffitt, he went on to graduate from Mt. Lebanon High School and then University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy. While at Pitt, he made the varsity track team, earning an athletic scholarship in the process.

He spent his career in pharmacy around the South Hills and Washington County. He and his wife, Martha, lived in Peters Township for more than 50 years.

He had many interests, including scuba diving, Civil War marksmanship groups, building whirligigs and dozens of workshop projects. He also was a self-taught blacksmith and built his own working forge in his backyard. He volunteered many hours to the Boy Scouts. He loved his interests most of all for all the good friends he made because of them.

His outlook on life, which he shared through jokes and stories, will be greatly missed. Helping a friend was always important to him.

He is survived by his wife, Martha; his son, David and wife Debra; his daughter, Susan and husband Chris; and four grandsons, Nate, Nick, Will and Lucas. He is also survived by his sister, Nancy; many nephews and nieces; and longtime family friend, Wayne Jordan.

A gathering of friends and family to celebrate his life will be held later.

Memorial remembrances may be sent to Washington Area Humane Society, P.O. Box 66, Eighty Four, PA 15530, or your local Boy Scout troop.
