Raymond Glenn Penvose

Raymond Glenn Penvose, 94, of Washington, formerly of Greensboro, N.C., died unexpectedly, due to complications of pneumonia, Tuesday, August 17, 2021, with his family by his side.

He was born March 14, 1927, in Butler, a son of the late Raymond H. and Ruth E. Miller Penvose. He was a 1945 graduate of Canonsburg High School, where he was elected a member of the National Honor Society. Following high school, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving in Italy until his discharge in 1947.

He attended California State Teachers’ College, transferring later to George Washington University while employed by the Department of Commerce.

He re-entered the Army in 1949, and while stationed in Heidelberg, Germany, he met and married Silvana Ebbli in 1952. Mrs. Penvose died July 8, 2018.

He then attended the University of Maryland, Overseas Division, while serving in the military, retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer in 1969. He continued his service to the military as a life member of AUSA, AMVETS, NAUS and other military organizations.

Retiring to Greensboro, N.C., he became the administrative manager for the Iowa National Mutual Insurance Company. He represented the company as a member of the Administrative Management Society, serving on the board and as president. He retired from the company in 1985.

He was an active 32nd Degree KCCH Scottish Rite Mason, a Shriner and a Past Master of Gate City Lodge No. 694. He was also a 25-year volunteer at Wesley Long Community Hospital.

He is survived by three sisters, Marjorie Reynolds of Leechburg, Mildred Orbin of Houston and Linda (Ralph) LaRosa of Millsboro, Del.; two brothers, Clarence “Curly” (Jeanie) Penvose of Washington and Robert (Beverly) Penvose of Houston. He loved spending time with Kristie, Dan and Lily Liu.

Deceased are three brothers, Norman, Kenneth and Wayne Penvose; and a sister, Jane Dubois.

All services will be private with military honors afforded in Forest Lawn Garden, McMurray. Memorial contributions may be directed to the charity of one’s choice.
