Elsie Agnes Magdich Carman
Elsie Agnes Magdich Carman, 93, passed into heaven on August 17, 2021.
Born to immigrant parents, Mathew Magdich and Ivanka Zadel in Powhatan Point, Ohio, Elsie was orphaned very young on July 30, 1928. Despite her hardships, she made it to young adulthood with grace and grit.
At 17, Elsie met the love of her life Joseph Carman Sr., and they were married on May 11, 1946, in Elm Grove, West Virginia.
The couple built a home in West Alexander, PA, where they developed strong ties to the community and friendships with neighbors. Elsie often remembered, “all I had ever wanted was to have a family and raise my kids.”
That large family was her greatest joy and pride – a network of bright, happy, successful Carmans who spread out across the country.
Elsie is survived by her five children, Carol (Ralph) Purdy of South Carolina, Joe (Angela) Carman of Oregon, Lynne (Jim) Horne of Wyoming, Trish (Patti Dobish) Moss of Pennsylvania, and Michael (Kathy) Carman of Ohio.
Elsie loved her children, her nine grandchildren, her 15 great-grandchildren, and her two great-great-granddaughters a bushel and a peck, and a hug around the neck. You bet your pretty neck she did.
Elsie is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joseph, and her brothers Matthew and Frank.
A lifelong Catholic, Elsie trusted in the Good Lord to take care of her and eventually take her Home.
Visitation for Elsie will be held from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 24 at United Methodist Church 58 North Liberty Road, West Alexander Pa 15376. There will be a graveside service to follow at West Alexander Cemetery.
