Frank Hays
Frank “Dutch” Hays, 85, of Hickory, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his daughters, Sunday, August 22, 2021. He was born August 31, 1935.
He was the beloved husband to the late Janet Beckert Hays, who died in 2003; beloved father of Laura (Robert McClure) Russell, Tracy (Ed) Kelley, Mary Hays, Janet Boneysteele, Nikki Bedillion and the late David Servetnick; brother of William Hays, the late James Hays, the late Betty Ann (Eddie) Reilly, the late Mary Elizabeth Bessipata, the late Walter Hays and the late Robert Hays. Also surviving are his beloved boys, Dutch and Ammo, his two black labs.
Dutch was well loved by his many grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, an active member of Marine Corps Detachment 1138, and a lifetime member and officer of the Westland Sportsman’s Club. Frank was also a member of St. Alphonsus Church in McDonald.
He was a devoted volunteer for “Toys for Tots” for many years. Dutch’s favorite pastimes were cheering for the Steelers, Pirates and Penguins with his friends, fishing, playing cards and playing bingo. Beloved by all that knew him, Dutch was known for his kindness, generosity and his sense of humor. He will be dearly missed.
Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 25, in Thomas-Little Funeral Service, Inc., 314 W. Lincoln Avenue, McDonald (724-926-2800). A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 26, in St. Isidore the Farmer Parish, St. Alphonsus Church, McDonald. Interment will follow the Mass at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Make A Wish Foundation, Donnell House, Wounded Warriors Project, The Special Olympics or to the MS Society, in memory of Dutch.
