Paul D. Rush
Paul D. “Whitey” Rush, 86, of Canonsburg, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at Townview Health and Rehabilitation Center, Canonsburg, following a lengthy illness. He was born September 23, 1934, in Washington, a son of the late Lloyd and Daisy McConnell Rush.
Paul was a 1952 graduate of Trinity High School. He proudly served in the United States Army in Mannheim, Germany, from 1957 to 1959. Mr. Rush was a former employee of Western Electric of Pittsburgh, a bricklayer of Local 11 Union of Washington and an employee of McGraw Edison-Cooper of Canonsburg for 32 years, retiring in 1994 from the electrical maintenance department.
Paul was a member of St. Patrick Church of St. Oscar Romero Parish. “Whitey” was also an active member of the Volunteer Fire Department for 16 years, The Russian Club, The White Eagles and the Canonsburg Elks. He previously belonged to bowling leagues of Washington and Canonsburg and golf leagues of Canonsburg. Paul was an avid fisherman, gardener and reader, and he loved music, especially polkas. A “jack-of-all-trades,” Paul happily worked on various home projects for family and friends. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
On September 28, 1962, in Winchester, Va., he married Patricia “Pat” Brackis of Canonsburg, who survives. Also left behind to cherish his memory are his son, Gregory Pirmez of Canonsburg; daughters, Paula Rush, Kathy Rush and Michele (Mark) Luba, all of Canonsburg; grandchildren Alissa (Ezra) Hildebrand, Madison Popp, Nicholas Vlahos, Savannah Popp and Jacob Luba; great-grandchildren, Lillyana and Ezekiel Hildebrand; brother-in-law, Fran (Janet) Brackis of Eastlake, Ohio; sister-in-law, Carole Rush of Allentown; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are grandchildren, Callie Pirmez, Angelica Vlahos and Hannah Popp; brother, Gene Rush; infant brother, Kenneth Rush; and daughter-in-law, Darlene Pirmez.
Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, August 29, in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services Inc., Joseph P. Salandra LFD owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120, where departing prayers will be recited at 8:40 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. Monday, August 30, in St. Patrick Church of St. Oscar Romero Parish, 317 West Pike Street, Canonsburg.
Interment will follow in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil, with full military honors by the United States Army and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 Honor Guard.
