Nancy Kay Rhoades McDowell
Nancy Kay Rhoades McDowell, 83, of Washington, died unexpectedly Saturday, December 18, 2021, in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.
She was born June 16, 1938, in Washington, to the late James and Hazel Genevieve Shrontz Rhoades.
Nancy graduated from Claysville High School. She worked as a secretary at AAA in Washington.
She was a 1975 graduate of Greene County Vo-Tech, and worked as a LPN at Allegheny General Hospital, Washington Hospital, and Hospice Care, Inc.
Nancy was a member of Chartiers Cross Roads Presbyterian Church, where she was an ordained deacon, and had been a youth leader, and Sunday school teacher.
On January 16, 1960, she married Donald M. McDowell, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Linda Binns, and Brenda Neundorf of Pittsburgh; a son, James (Krissy) McDowell of Washington; grandchildren, Jessica (Anthony) Mojica of Houston, Second Lieutenant Donald (Sami) Weaver of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Samantha McDowell of Washington; great-grandchildren, Michael Weaver of New Eagle, Piper and Londyn Mojica of Houston; stepgreat-grandchildren, Zay, Eli and Jr. Mojica of Houston; a brother, the Rev. Dr. Robert Rhoades of Newville; and a sister, Alma Hart of Washington; one surviving aunt, Wilma Cale of Tennessee; and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased is a brother, William Rhoades.
Nancy enjoyed crochet work, visiting Assateague Island, and reading. Most of all she enjoyed her family and spoiling grand and great- grandchildren. We will miss her Sunday family dinners and making her laugh until she cried.
Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 21, in Hummell & Jones Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, Douglas M. Jones, supervisor, Lawrence K. Donovan, director, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 22, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Rhoades and the Rev. Jack Thompson officiating. All other services are private.
