Carol Ann Conklin
Carol Ann “Ann” Conklin, 81, passed away in her home in Crucible, on Sunday, December 19, 2021. She had been in failing health for the last year of her life.
Born in Sycamore, on September 17, 1940, she was one of 13 children born to Clint and Dora Rush.
Ann was married to Robert Conklin in June 1958, and was the proud mother of 10 children. Ann was well known in her community for being both socially outgoing and friendly towards everyone she met. Some of her favorite stories she relayed to others were of her family of ten children, (which included two sets of twins born within a year of each other).
She was the unofficial “adopted” mother to many of the friends of her children who frequented her home while growing up in the small coal mining town of Crucible. Many of those friends have expressed fond memories of enjoying Ann’s baked bread, pepperoni rolls, and other baked goods she fed the neighborhood children throughout the years.
Ann was a devoted Christian and expressed her faith through her many acts of generosity in giving to others. Being crafty in woodworking, she often gifted many of her creations to the residents of her community.
Ann was a self-taught singer who enjoyed strumming the guitar and singing Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn songs around the family campfire in their yard. One of the highlights to her life included singing “Mama, he’s crazy” by the Judds and “Coal Miner’s Daughter” by Loretta Lynn to an audience of several thousand while attending a conference in San Diego. She even once had airtime of the recording of one of the songs on the local Waynesburg radio station.
Ann loved traveling and did so with family and church groups for many years.
Ann’s was a life “well lived” and she will surely be greatly missed as she leaves behind many cherished memories to those who knew and loved her.
Ann is survived by her children, Chris (Mike) Teagarden, of Clarksville, Kathy (Rich) Herrold, of Washington, Charlotte (Toby) Zappone, of Crucible, Rita (Robert) McMillen, of Rices Landing, Lori (Michael) Hoover, of Fredericktown, Lisa (Jamie) Chambers, of Crucible, Rodney Conklin, of Crucible, and Ryan (Susan) Conklin, of Carmichaels.
Her survivors also include a brother, Roger (Dawn) Rush, and a sister, Linda (Charles) Bland, both of Waynesburg.
Also surviving are 19 Grandchildren, 18 Great-Grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Conklin, who died in 2014; and by two sons, Rick Conklin, and Robert J. Conklin. She was also preceded in death by 10 of her siblings (Dave Rush, Joseph Rush, Eloise Williard, June Booth, Esther VonDorn, Mary Peck, Janet Olive Phelps, Jean Crouch, Diane Ackley and Loretta Koscheck).
