Sarah L. Long
Sarah L. Long, 87, passed away at Good Shepherd Nursing Home, in Wheeling, W.Va., on Tuesday, December 21, 2021.
Sarah “Sally” was the daughter of the late Amy M. Harding and James Mapstone. She was born on January 28, 1934, in Williamsport.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Joseph W. Long, of Lock Haven.
Sally and Joe eventually moved to Claysville, where they resided for the majority of their lives.
Sally was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Hygiene. She practiced her profession in her younger years, and intermittently while raising her family.
In her later years, she and her husband became proprietors of the Christmas Shop in West Alexander, and eventually owners of Funtastic Flags, on Main Street in Claysville.
Sally was very quick-witted, loved auctions, antiques, and playing cards. She was an accomplished seamstress and gifted at knitting and cross-stitch.
She is survived by three daughters, Amy Lough (Donald), of Wheeling, W.Va., Melinda Little (Anthony Falbo), of Cornelius, N.C., and Cynthia Moore (Jack), also of Cornelius, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Good Shepherd for their loving and compassionate care.
As per her wishes, there will not be a public service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Sarah’s name to Good Sheperd Nursing Home, 159 Edgington Lane, Wheeling, WV 16003.
