Shirley Jean Cox Craig
Shirley Jean Cox Craig, 87, of Washington, died Monday, December 20, 2021.
She was born on August 9, 1934, the daughter of the late Paul T. and Lucile Fedis Cox.
Shirley attended Wylie Avenue Grade School, where she was awarded the American Legion Medal.
She graduated from Trinity High School in 1952. While in high school, Shirley worked at Murphy’s. After graduation, she was a telephone operator for Bell Telephone, and was a member of the 10 years club.
On December 20, 1954, Shirley married Homer C. Craig, who died on August 13, 2018. She was very blessed to be a stay-at-home wife and Mommy.
She had great faith in her Lord Jesus Christ and was baptized on October 12, 1974. She and Homer were former members of Grove United Presbyterian Church, and Fourth Presbyterian Church, where she was a deacon, then Souls Harbor Lighthouse, and last attended Abundant Life Baptist Church, until health problems prevented them from attending.
She gave to numerous charities over the years.
She was an avid football fan. She loved the Steelers and the local college teams, Pitt, Penn State, and WVU. Her family knew to not bother her when any of her teams were playing.
Her family was most important to her. She was a loving, devoted wife and mother, there has been none better. She will be greatly missed, but her family has wonderful memories of her.
Surviving are her children, Melanie J. Isler (Jarrett), Stacey L. Frankovich (Bill), Lori S. Moninger (Tim), and Gordon C. (Susie) Craig; grandchildren, Celina J. Van Riper, Amanda J. Bland, George M. Suhon Jr., Richard A. Suhon, Christie L. Suhon, Andrew R. Suhon, Tim Moninger, Jr., Michael Moninger, Garett Craig, Connor Craig; great-grandchildren, Julianne Moninger, Tyler Moninger, Paige N. Suhon, Eden R. Suhon, Elliott Petitta; and sister, Carol Ann Sharp.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Paul Cox, Jr., Donald Cox, Thomas Cox, and a son, who died in infancy.
No public services will be held.
Arrangements have been entrusted to William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington.
