Joseph R. Glad
Joseph R. Glad, 93, of Marianna, died peacefully on January 26, 2021 following a courageous battle with Lymphoma. He was born in Lecrone, on February 5, 1927, a son of the late Matthew A. and Katherine Brisky Glad.
He was educated at West Bethlehem Center School. At age 18, he entered into the US Army where he proudly served his country during WWII in the 350th infantry 88th Division as First Class Private.
Following discharge from the army, Joe was employed at the Michigan Dye Casting Company and then went onto a lifetime career (39yrs) dedicated to the field of mining. He was employed at Bethlehem Mines until he retired at age 58. Following retirement, Joe combined his passion for woodworking and mining to build a small-scale village of the town of Marianna and the coal mine. The exhibit includes a collection of historical mining artifacts. He was also active in the local National Historical and Archaeology Societies. His archaeology collection will be donated per his wishes.
Joe also enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading, coin/stamp collecting, and gardening. He loved his family and the Lord. Joe remained an active member of St. Mary & Anne’s Catholic Church (St. Oliver Plunkett Parish) until its closing. He was a member of American Legion Post #744 and actively involved in the Veterans Breakfast Club (Mt. Lebanon) until his recent illness. He will be sadly missed by all.
He is survived by his wife Yolanda Virginia Cargini Glad; daughters, Mary Kay (Paul) Chilensky and Jo Ann Glad, three grandchildren Melanie (Robert) Whipps, Jordan (Danielle) Chilensky and Nia Chilensky, two great -grandchildren, Adalyn and Ryder Whipps, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant son Richard; sister, Roseanne (Cherup); and brothers, Matthew and Richard Glad.
Due to COVID a private viewing and mass of Christian Burial on February 11, 2021. Interment will take place in Horn Cemetery. Full Graveside Military Rites will be accorded by American Legion Post #744 of Marianna and the U.S. Army.
Friends will be received at a Celebration of Life ceremony to honor Joe in late Spring (TBA). Flowers can be sent to the John B.
