John T. “Jack” McCabe, 81, of Canonsburg, died Monday, February 8, 2021.

He was born July 4, 1939, in Clearfield, a son of Francis and Louise Wilson McCabe.

Mr. McCabe was an active member of All Saints Greek Orthodox Church. He served as past District President of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA), was a member of the White Eagles, Polish National Union and the Washington Country Club. He enjoyed golf, loved photography and was an avid high school sports fan, having annually attended Pennsylvania State Wrestling Championships with Sandra. He had 34 photos that were published in “Hot Shots” in the Washington Observer-Reporter.

Prior to his retirement in 2001, Mr. McCabe was a teacher. Throughout his career, he taught at Canon-McMillan, McGuffey and at South Fayette, where he was a wrestling and football coach. He taught English, including Shakespeare; civics and six levels of history. He loved spending time with his family, and was very immersed in his cultural life and they loved to travel to Greece and Croatia. He was involved with the St. George Tamburitzans and his grandchildren’s musical and athletic involvement.

On December 22, 1961, he married his loving wife, Sandra Petika McCabe, who passed away September 25, 2015.

Surviving are his son, John S. (Karina Dayich-McCabe) McCabe of Pittsburgh; his brother, Michael McCabe of Phoeniz, Arizona; his grandchildren, Clarine and Steven McCabe; nephews, Douglas (Alexa) McCabe and Andrew (Amy) McCabe.

Due to uncertainties associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be no public visitation and private services will be held in the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church with Father George Athanasiou, officiating, followed by burial in the Melrose Cemetery.

A celebration of his life will be held in the future when it is safe to gather in large groups.
