William K. Bowling

William K. Bowling, 94, of Washington, died Wednesday, February 10, 2021, in the Washington Hospital.

He was born June 22, 1926, in Cass, Pocahontas County, W.Va., the only son of the late Lacey E. and Monna Johnston Bowling.

Mr. Bowling was a 1944 graduate of Rivesville High School, in Rivesville, W.Va. He furthered his education with business and management classes from Fairmont State University and Fairmont Business College as well as management courses offered by Fairmont Supply Company.

Mr. Bowling spent his working career with the Fairmont Supply Company. He served in various management roles before retiring in 1987 with over 40 years of service.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, where served as an aerial engineer.

Mr. Bowling was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, where he faithfully served his Lord as a Sunday school teacher, youth leader, board member and choir member. He also served as president of the Fairmont District United Methodist Men.

After retiring, Mr. Bowling served on several boards in the Fairmont community. He spent his retired years vacationing and enjoying time with his family.

In 1947, he married his high school sweetheart, Dora Mae Straight, and they were blessed with over 65 happy years together, before her death in 2013.

Surviving are two daughters, Frances Elaine Olshock and Joan (Dan) Emmett, both of Washington; four grandchildren, Matthew Neelen, Ryan Emmett, Katheryn Elaine (Rob) Cox and Valerie Joan Emmett; five great-grandchildren are Zoe, Teague and Coen Neelen, Molly and Charlotte Cox, and he was expecting a new great-granddaughter in May; and a sister, Frieda Michael; and several nieces and nephews.

Also deceased are three sisters, Alma Craig, Eva Furgason and Elaine Constable; a grandson, Andrew Emmett; and a son-in-law, John T. Olshock.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, all services are private. They are entrusted to Hummell and Jones Funeral Home, Douglas M. Jones, supervisor, Dr. Lawrence K. Donovan, director.
