Richard E. Briggs
Richard E. “Snowball” Briggs, 89, of Washington, died Friday, February 19, 2021, in his home.
He was born April 25, 1931, a son of the late George and Naomi Rasel Briggs.
He was in the Army from 1952-1954 at Fort Hood, Texas.
Richard was employed at DF & DR Farabee, R.G. Johnson, and Marianna Mine #58.
In his younger years, Richard belonged to Lone Pine Camp, played baseball for Lone Pine, and coached Ampro Baseball Team. He was a longtime member of Amity Veterans of Foreign Wars, Washington American Legion, Washington Moose, and Anawanna Hunting and Fishing Club.
He and his wife loved traveling and they would go to their camp in the mountains to spend time with family and friends. He also enjoyed spending time with his dog, Jack, and loved decorating for Christmas.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Himes Briggs; his children, Debbie (Denny) Phillips, Teddy (Sherri) Briggs and Michelle Briggs, all of Amity; a stepdaughter, Billie Von (George) Spencer; six grandchildren, Dana (Tim) Perkins, Darla (Tad) Francis, Darcie Phillips, Nicole Shaw, Joshua T. (Heather) Jenkins, Cassandra Jenkins; one stepgrandson, Matthew Spencer; three great-grandchildren, Andrew and Ruby Perkins, Paige Jenkins; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are a stepson, Stanley Swanson; two brothers, Robert Briggs, Kenneth Briggs; one sister, Mildred Dybowski; and aunt Idell Briggs.
Family and friends will be received from 11 a.m. until the 2 p.m. hour of funeral services Monday, February 22, in the Nichol Funeral Home, 1873 East Maiden Street, Washington. Burial will be at National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
