John J. Heiser, 86, of Canonsburg, passed away at home peacefully, Friday, February 12, 2021, surrounded by his loving family and friends.

He was born April 7, 1934, in Canonsburg, a son of the late Jack and Anna Heiser

Mr. Heiser was a member of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Canonsburg.

John was a 1954 graduate of Canon-McMillan High School where he met his wife, Erma Scarsellato, and later married July 25, 1964. After high school, John served in the United States Army.

Starting in 1959, John began his career as an operator of Atlantic Gas Station in Canonsburg. He went on to operate John’s Esso and Exxon in Canonsburg. Later, he moved to Washington and owned and operated John’s Amoco. John was in business as a service station operator for over 30 years.

Many people knew John for his joking nature, sense of humor and generous spirit. John loved his family and enjoyed cooking for them. He especially loved making his cabbage rolls, city chicken and Baba steak for everyone.

Left behind to cherish his memory is his son, Paul Heiser of Tucson, Ariz.; daughter, Leah (Alexander) Drain of Canonsburg; son, Daryl (Michelle) Heiser of Chartiers-Houston; son, Richard (Janeth Smith) Heiser of Canonsburg; and loving grandfather to Nikoli Heiser, Viktoria Heiser, Sarah Drain, Alex Drain, Madeline Heiser, Jack Heiser, Benjamin Heiser, Brandon Ruetschi, Rosney Ruetschi. Also, surviving is his sister, Anna Marie (John) Wudkwych of Canonsburg; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, is his wife, Erma Scarsellato Heiser.

John will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Friends and family are welcome from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 26, in Mario L. DeAngelo Funeral Home at 194 East College Street in Canonsburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 27, in St. Patrick Church in Canonsburg. Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery.

Military honors will be provided by the United States Army.
