Vincent E. McGowan

Vincent E. McGowan, 73, of Canonsburg, passed away, in his home, Tuesday, February 23, 2021, surrounded by his family. He was born October 11, 1947, in Pittsburgh, the only son of the late John and Alma Fuchs McGowan.

Vincent lived the past 48 years in Canonsburg and had been a member of the St. Patrick worship site of the St. Oscar Romero Roman Catholic Parish.

He was a graduate of Serra Catholic High School in McKeesport and then went on to receive his Master’s in Education from California University of Pennsylvania.

He had been employed as an industrial arts teacher for Ohio County Schools, specifically at Wheeling Middle School for more than 25 years prior to his retirement. After retiring, Vincent worked construction in the summers and at Lowe’s in the paint department.

Vincent enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, attending all of their sporting events. He also enjoyed rooting for the Pittsburgh Steelers, golfing and visiting the beach.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 49 years, Elizabeth “Betty” McGowan of Canonsburg; daughter Amy Arquette and husband Joe of Bridgeville; son Kevin McGowan and wife Allie of McDonald; grandchildren Julie (Matt) Cole, Brandon and Duncan Nicotra, and Carter, Ethan and Luke McGowan; and great-granddaughter Peyton Cole; his sisters, Maryanne McGowan of Maryland, Kathleen (Steve) Verbanets of Pittsburgh, Carol (Joe) Burta of Bridgeville, Ellen Miller of Florida, Joan (Peter) Fiset of Pittsburgh and Janice (Tim) Taylor of West Mifflin; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, February 28, in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, owner / supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120, where departing prayers will be recited at 9:40 a.m. Monday, March 1, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in the St. Patrick worship site of the St. Oscar Romero Parish, 317 West Pike Street, Canonsburg.

Entombment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, McMurray.
