Paul W. Taylor Sr.
Paul W. Taylor Sr., 77, of Washington, passed away peacefully, Thursday, January 14, 2021. He was born June 20, 1943, in Washington, a son of the late John H. and Nyla Paul Taylor.
Mr. Taylor was a 1961 graduate of Claysville High School. He was employed for 40 years in the coal mining industry. Mr. Taylor was a proud United States Army veteran who served in the Vietnam War where he received the Bronze Star for valor. He was a life member of the American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post # 175, was a 32 Degree Mason and a member of Washington Lodge No. 164 Free & Accepted Masons and was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #776. Mr. Taylor was Roman Catholic by faith and was a member of St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church where he was very active as a volunteer. He also volunteered with the Blue Ride yearly. Mr. Taylor’s true passion however was helping veterans. He started a charity drive for veterans at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Pittsburgh that lasted for eight years and provided much needed necessities for veterans in need. This endeavor was very near and dear to his heart.
Mr. Taylor enjoyed hunting, fishing and going to Myrtle Beach for summer vacations. He was an avid Steeler fan and enjoyed mowing his lawn on his tractor and the times that he spent sitting on his porch with his wife, Marie. Mr. Taylor was a truly kind soul that had a smile for everyone that he encountered in life. He will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved him.
On June 5, 1965, in the Immaculate Conception Church, he married the love of his life, Marie A. Lobis, who survives. Also surviving is his treasured son, Paul W. Taylor Jr. of Washington; a brother, Don Taylor of Washington; two sisters, Delores and Jo Ann, both of Washington; and two grandchildren, Samuel Lane Taylor and Cara Lynne Taylor. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his mother and father, Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
