Dorothy Mae Sifinski
Dorothy Mae Sifinski, 92, of Canonsburg, died Tuesday, January 19, 2021, in the Canonsburg Hospital, following a valiant battle with COVID-19.
She was born May 1, 1928, a daughter of George and Margaret Wilkinson Thompson.
Dorothy was a 1946 graduate of Canonsburg High School and was a lifelong resident of Canonsburg.
She had worked at numerous jobs throughout her life, including as a cook at the former South Hills Convalescent Center in Canonsburg, Washington Grocers Association, Canonsburg Daily Notes and as a cook at the Canonsburg Senior Center, where she also volunteered for 15 years following her retirement.
Dorothy was a member of Canonsburg United Presbyterian Church and was a faithful Pittsburgh sports fan. She always enjoyed listening to the Steelers, Penguins and Pirates. Her other activities included reading, crossword puzzles, flower gardening and taking care of her cat, Missy.
On November 6, 1971, she married Raymond B. “Corkey” Sifinski, who died August 18, 1993.
Surviving are a son, Henry Novak of Warren; a brother, Donald Thompson (Edith) of Canonsburg; two nephews, Scott Horst of Zanesville, Ohio, and Dwayne Thompson (Lou Ann) of Carnegie; five nieces, Bonnie Horst of Zanesville, Debbie Myers of Radcliff, Ky., Cindy Lamantia (Sam) of Belcamp, Md., Sherry Jeffers (Buddy) of Houston and Connie Lyle (Dan) of Duluth, Ga.; a granddaughter; and several great-nieces and nephews.
Deceased are two sisters, Ruth Dentel Simon and Margaret Jean Horst.
Due to present circumstances, all services will be private. A memorial service will be held at a date to be determined.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, owner/supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Fix Ur Cat, 18 W. Pike Street, Canonsburg, PA 15317.
