John F. “Jocko” Penn Jr., 79, of Washington, died Monday, January 18, 2021, in the home of his daughter.

He was born December 31, 1941, in Washington, a son of the late John F. Penn Sr. and Emily Ruth Cross Penn.

John attended Taylorstown Grade School, graduated from Claysville High School and attended Penn Commercial in Washington.

He retired after 30 years as a mechanic for Molycorp.

John was a faithful, lifetime member of Taylorstown Presbyterian Church.

He loved gardening, reading and kept a diary of every day. He had a passion for hunting. But his most favorite thing was his family. They were precious to him and the center of his life.

On December 30, 1961, John married Carolyn Ruth Mounts, who survives.

Also surviving are a son, John F. (Kim) Penn III of Washington; daughters, Caren R. (Lloyd Ealy) Shadeck of Claysville, Nancy J. (Tom) Blodgett of Canonsburg, Betsy (Timothy Sr.) Cox of Washington, Jennifer L. (BJ) Rush of Washington; brother, David H. (Judy) Penn of Claysville; sister, Margorie Macneal of Claysville; grandchildren, Jordan (Aulbrey) Engle, Timothy (Brittany) Cox Jr., Nathan (Danielle) Penn, Nicholas (Casey) Cox, Nicole Shadeck, Dylan Shadeck, Joel Rush, Gloria Rush, Jay Rush, Jon Rush, Grant Rush, Cora Blodgett, Colton Blodgett, Blake Blodgett; great-grandchildren, Lilly, Miley, Andi and another one on the way; and double cousin, Ethel Rose “Sis” Cummins, who was like a sister; sisters-in-law, Emma Jane (the late William) Rush of Claysville and Nancy Lee (the late John Sr.) Devenney of Washington; as well as many, many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.

Visitation will be held at Taylorstown Presbyterian Church, 31 Main Street, Taylorstown, PA 15365, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, January 21. Funeral services will be held in the church at 11 a.m. Friday, January 22, with Clayton LaPosta officiating. Masks will be required for entrance to the church. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery.
