Alice Irene Castner Hayes, 63, of Baltic, Ohio, formerly of Cambridge, Ohio and McDonald, passed away in Community Hospice in New Philadelphia, Ohio, Friday, January 15, 2021. She was born March 9, 1957, in Washington, to the late Alfred Castner and Margaret Matalik Castner of Canonsburg.

She was a 1975 graduate of Fort Cherry High School. As a teenager, she participated in the Neighborhood Youth Corp. and worked for Smith Township. She also worked for the Hickory Municipal Road Department as a flag girl. Before leaving Pennsylvania, she worked for several years at Stylette Plastics in Oakdale. In Ohio, she worked in housekeeping at the Ramada Inn and later at the Becket House.

Alice was a free-spirited person, who was fun to be around, always laughing and doing funny things. She liked to express herself by putting pen to paper and was quite the little poet. She was an excellent cook and everyone loved her delicious potato salad and lasagna. She enjoyed dancing and listening to country music, especially Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. But the greatest joy of her life was spending time with her two daughters and playing with her four grandchildren. She loved all of her family and friends unconditionally and once said, “The world would be a better place if everyone could be a little less judgmental.” She was Christian by faith.

Surviving, in addition to her mother, are two daughters, Amy (Derek) Gibson of Lore City, Ohio, and Megan (Seth Cross) Hayes of Cambridge; four grandchildren, Sophia, Kalon, Paisley and Ryleigh; seven sisters, Carole (Paul) Heerdink of Bloomington, Ind., Nancy (the late Dave) Harmon of Burgettstown, Bonnie (Robert) Clark of Pinellas Park, Fla., Marjorie (the late Phil) Levato of Canonsburg, Rita (Bernie) Handerhan of Little Elm, Texas, Patricia Castner of Canonsburg and Bella (Jim) Dodd of Cambridge; three brothers, John (Stephanie) Castner of Burgettstown, and Larry and Mark Castner, both of Canonsburg; also many nieces, nephews, cousins and several aunts and uncles.

Deceased, in addition to her father, are two brothers, Terry Castner and Robert Castner.

A memorial service will be held in the spring at Northwood Cemetery in Cambridge.
