Mary Alice Sprowls, 101, of Washington, died Tuesday, July 6, 2021, in her home.

She was born February 5, 1920, in Mannington, W.Va., a daughter of the late Curtis and Cora Hawking Stevens.

Mary was a full time mom and wife, but in her free time she enjoyed hand quilting, especially making quilts for family and friends, gardening, and baking pies.

On March 6, 1937, in Good Intent, she married the love of her life, John Sprowls, who preceded her in death.

Surviving are two sons, Robert (Madeline) Sprowls and Carl (Suzette) Sprowls, both of Washington; a brother, Jack Stevens; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Also deceased are a daughter, Alice Dunn; two brothers, Walter and Howard Sevens; and two sisters, Opal Teagarden and Lillian Madden.

Friends will be received from 9 until the 11 a.m. time of service Friday, July 9, in the Hummell and Jones Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, Douglas M. Jones, supervisor, Dr. Lawrence K. Donovan, director, with Pastor Jeff Diedrich officiating. All other services are private.
