Richard D. Yancich

Richard D. Yancich, 77, of Dilliner, passed away Thursday, July 1, 2021, at Mapleshire Rest Home in Morgantown, W.Va., following a lengthy illness. Born in Dilliner, March 1, 1944, he was a son of the late Nick and Mary Prete Yancich.

Graduating in 1962 from Mapletown High School, and later from West Virginia University with a degree in mechanical engineering, Rich served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a retired mining engineer, having worked for both J & L Steel and Gateway Mines.

Surviving are two daughters, Kristin Yancich of New York City, N.Y. and Kara Dutta of West Chester; a brother, Alex Yancich of Ellicott City, Md.; an uncle, Orlando Prete of Dilliner; one aunt, Doris Lewandowski of Warren, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews and their families.

Also deceased are two sisters, Delores Palmer in 2006 and Rena Yancich in infancy; and a brother, Mike Yancich in 2020.

Friends are invited to join the family for a memorial mass in the St. Ignatius Worship Site of St. Matthias Parish in Bobtown at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 10. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park, Point Marion, with military honors accorded at the graveside by the Point Marion veterans posts. Arrangements are in the care of the Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, Point Marion.
