William C. Kestner
William C. Kestner, 95, a resident of Edgeworth, member of the greatest generation and talented musician, passed away unexpectedly, in his home, Tuesday, March 17, 2020. He was born September 24, 1924, in Pittsburgh, to the late Clifford R. and Wanda L. Herron Kestner.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Sara F. Scott Kestner; his son, John S. Kestner; and his sister, Joanne Kestner Ringeis.
Surviving are his son, Robert W. Kestner (Jean) of Emsworth; his daughter-in-law, Alison Kestner of New Waterford, Ohio; five grandchildren, Megan (Kyle) Lowry, Molly Jane Kestner, Aimee (Tony) Montani, Kathryn (Matthew) Bulanda, Andrew (Irene) Kestner; six great-grandchildren.
He was a graduate of Washington High School and Robert Morris College School of Business. He retired from Dravo Corporation in 1989 after a 40-year career in accounting, which took him to nine states in the U.S., Indonesia, Brazil, Mexico and Australia.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a 65-year member of Free & Accepted Masons Sunset Lodge #63 in Washington, and served as auditor for the Borough of Edgeworth.
As a young teenager, Bill discovered his love of music and began playing his trumpet in local bands. For more than 80 years, he shared his talents with jazz bands, big bands, dance bands, marching bands, symphonic orchestras and churches throughout Western Pennsylvania.
A memorial service and luncheon will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 24, in St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 801 Beaver Street, Sewickley. Please plan to wear a mask if you are not fully vaccinated. Private inurnment will take place at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, with full military honors.
