Howard W. Bruce
Howard W. Bruce, 88, of McDonald, died Wednesday, July 14, 2021.
He was born December 14, 1932, in Candor, a son of Thomas J. and Ethel Mae Porter Bruce.
Mr. Bruce was in the U.S. Army stationed in Korea following the Korean War.
He was a steel worker at J&L Steel and later worked as a custodian for Fort Cherry School District from where he retired.
Mr. Bruce was a member of the United Steel Workers of America, the Bible Methodist Church of McDonald, the McDonald American Legion Post #485 and the Slovene National Benefit Society (S.N.P.J.). He also was a volunteer fireman in his younger years.
He enjoyed gardening and growing tomatoes, going to the casino, hunting and jigsaw puzzles.
On October 12, 1956, he married Evelyn Jean Byers, who died April 8, 1997.
Surviving are a daughter, Brenda (Mason) Findling of Cape Coral, Fla.; two brothers, Ron Bruce and Jim (Chris) Bruce; eight grandchildren, Kristen (Josh) McCallister, James (Mikala) Findling, Amanda Sampson, Jessica (Jake Thomas) Findling, John (Kelly Duratz) Findling, Rejeana Silla, Jack Wilson “Yogi” Silla and Michael (Justine Soisson) Silla; and eight great-grandchildren, McKalyn, Brailynn, Waylon, Clayton, Tristan, Clairah, Sienna and Troy.
Deceased are a sister, Dorothy Donovall; and five brothers, Tom (Elizabeth), Donald (Betty), Bob (Alice) and Will.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, in Nation Funeral Home, Inc., 220 E. Lincoln Avenue, McDonald, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 21. Burial will follow in Center Cemetery, Midway.
The family suggests memorials either be live plants or memorial contributions on their behalf to the funeral home.
