Kathleen Ann Camden, 84, formerly of Washington, passed away Friday, May 28, 2021, after a brief unexpected illness in Michigan. Kay was supported by Hospice and her family as she transitioned from this physical world.

She was born February 4, 1937, in Columbus, Ohio, the only daughter of Richard and Ruth Boss Camden.

Ms. Camden graduated from Chartiers-Houston High School and earned her bachelor’s degree in teaching from Daemen College in Buffalo, N.Y.

Ms. Camden married and had two children, Mark (Vivian) Sankey and Joan (Charles) Worswick. Although she gave birth to only two children, there were many other children whose lives she had a lasting impression on.

Ms. Camden was a lifelong educator, teaching in various parochial schools for more than four decades. She retired from John F. Kennedy Catholic School in Washington.

She devoted her life to being a student of the world, and passing on her love of learning to hundreds of students and children over the years is her lasting legacy. She was a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader, involved for years with the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science and Math Counts with her students, and member and officer with the Covered Bridge Artisans cooperative of West Alexander.

Ms. Camden lived much of her life on “the Ridge” and enjoyed entering baked goods in the Washington County Fair, winning ribbons in multiple categories. Her favorite was a Blue Ribbon in the donut category. She would always laughingly add that she was the only entry in that category that year!

She enjoyed keeping in touch with friends, former students and their families through the internet, continuing to be part of their lives years after their paths had diverged. Ms. Camden baked the best chocolate chip cookies, read voraciously, loved gardening and birdwatching, traveling, crafting, playing cards with family and friends, taking walks, spreading smiles and cheering on the Steelers!

Ms. Camden had a way of making everyone she met feel special and that is what endeared her to all. Her physical presence will be missed, but she will live on in many hearts.

Kathleen is survived by her children; four brothers, Bruce Camden, Philip (Betty) Camden, John Camden, and Richard (Marilyn) Camden; a grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, Martin Camden.

Cremation arrangements were managed by Gendernalik Funeral Home in New Baltimore, Mich.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory to JFK School, local libraries, or The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society are appreciated.
