Joan M. Riggle
Joan Marie Riggle, 85, a lifelong resident of Mather, Pa., died Sunday, April 4, 2021.
She was born September 17, 1934, to the late William H. Gardner and Violet Clausner Gardner.
She was united in marriage to David Riggle on June 29, 1960, and together they raised five children.
Joan was a gentle soul and woman of few words. She worked in a shirt factory for several years after high school and chose to be a stay-at-home mom after the birth of her first child.
She enjoyed planting and tending her flowerbeds and vegetable garden, playing board games and reading books, building jigsaw puzzles, watching golf tournaments, and visiting with her siblings and extended family members.
Joan’s children are grateful for the loving and supportive home she and their father provided for them. She will be remembered for her gravy making skills and holiday baking, her victory chair dance when winning a board game, listening to Mario Lanza and Engelbert Humperdinck albums on laundry day, her love of pedal pushers, her struggle with the word oil, and her subtle ways of flirting with her husband of 58 years right up until his passing.
Joan is survived by four children and their spouses, Brenda Riggle of Morgantown W.Va., Lori (Michael) Cardilli of Willoughby, Ohio, Scott (Jennifer) Riggle of Havelock, N.C., and Keith (Holly) Riggle of Morgantown; siblings, Virginia Battistoni, Karen (Ray) Burich, and William (Georgann) Gardner; sister-in-law, Diane (Craig) Younken; three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her husband, David Riggle; son, Kevin Riggle; granddaughter, Ellie Riggle; and siblings, Betty Parker, Delores Whoolery, Evelyn Earls, Donna Fisher, and Deanna Rush.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the wonderful staff of Sundale Nursing Home for the care and companionship provided Joan during the last three years of her life.
In accordance with Joan’s wishes, no memorial services will take place. Cremation arrangements were entrusted to Behm Funeral Home, 1477 Jefferson Road, Jefferson, PA 15344, Gregory P. Rohanna, supervisor.
