Michael Burrows
Michael Burrows, 72, a lifelong resident of West Alexander, passed away at Allegheny Health Systems Pittsburgh on Monday, June 6, 2021, following a brief battle with Glioblastoma.
Mr. Burrows was born August 22, 1948 in Wheeling, W.Va., the son of the late William E. and Rachel M. Burrows.
He attended McGuffey High School, and served his country in the U.S. Army as a heavy equipment operator, completing three tours of duty in Vietnam where he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Meritorious Unit Citation.
Upon his discharge from the Army, Mr. Burrows embarked on a career as a maintenance technician with McGraw-Edison, later acquired by Cooper Industries, and now known as Pennsylvania Transformer Technology, Inc. Mr. Burrows served the company a total of 38 years in two different employments before retiring in 2019.
In 2012, Mr. Burrows earned an associates degree in electric repair from Penn Commercial in Washington.
On July 29, 1986, Mr. Burrows married Mary Jane Carnes, who survives. Mr. Burrows is survived by a son, Joseph Burrows, of Wellsburg, W.Va.; two daughters, Donna VanGorten (Ron), of Lawrence, S.C., and Kathy Boyle, Washington; stepson, John Mazza (Beth), Verona, Pa.; stepdaughters, Lisa (Coty) Shingle, Weirton, W.Va., and Lori (Brian) Schultz, McMurray, Pa.; brothers, Alan (Mary Jo) Shaner, Bill (Lynn) Burrows, Paul Burrows, and David Burrows; sisters, Darlene Burrows, Cindy Frew, Tracey (Rick) Wallace, and Daisy (Albert) Spoon; and 13 grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Burrows was preceded in death by sisters, Pamela Harris, and Linda Burrows; and his beloved cat, Buddy.
In accordance with his wishes, Mr. Burrows will be cremated at Pittsburgh Cremation and Funeral Services. His remains will entombed at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 17, at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville, Pa., with full military honors, following a brief memorial service with Coty Shingle presiding.
