Raymond G. Janda Sr.
Raymond G. Janda Sr., 87, of McMurray, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 4, 2021, in TownView Health and Rehabilitation Center, Canonsburg. He was born June 3, 1933, in Philadelphia, a son of the late John and Ella Mae Schoen Janda.
Ray graduated from North Catholic High School and attended LaSalle College, majoring in business and finance. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving in Korea and Alaska at radar sites from 1954 to 1959.
He met and on June 25, 1960, married Helen Gleadall, who survives after 60 years of marriage. Also left behind to cherish his memory are his four beloved surviving children, Raymond G. Janda Jr., Paul A. Janda, Lauren (John) Balden, Christopher (Kerry) Janda; his precious grandchildren, Dylan and Mackenzie Janda, Kayleigh Rae, Lindsay and Emily Janda, Jeb Balden, Weston Scott and Sadie Grace Janda; brothers Joseph and Jerry (Peggy) Janda; a sister-in-law, Gerry Hesdon; Kim Schmitt; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his son, John Scott Janda; and brothers John, James and Eugene Janda and their wives.
Ray had been employed by State Auto Mutual Insurance for 34 years. He was a loving husband, dedicated father and grandfather, and happiest when surrounded by his family. He enjoyed coaching basketball and coached the Peters Township Bronson House team for 14 years. He loved the Steelers, Sunday dinners, his home, his God and the USA.
Due to the COVID pandemic, a memorial gathering will be held by the family when its safer for all. Interment will be in Woodruff Memorial Park, North Strabane Township.
