Keegan Miles Johnston
Keegan Miles Johnston, 3, of Weirton, W.Va., passed away tragically and suddenly as a result of a house fire Saturday morning, March 13, 2021.
Keegan was born May 2, 2017, in Washington, a son of Michael and Heather Ward Johnston of Weirton.
Keegan and his family attended church at the First Church of God, Wellsburg, W.Va., along with activities at the Weirton Christian Center, Weirton. He was enrolled in Head Start at Weirton Elementary School with his brothers.
Many will remember Keegan for his enjoyment of riding four-wheelers, fishing, playing in the dirt and mud, acting like he was hunting, and helping out with his little sister. Keegan was just an amazing three year old who loved, enjoyed playing and exploring the world through the eyes of a little guy. The family, school and the community will miss the love that radiated from Keegan running to anyone, treating them instantly as his friend not knowing a stranger. He was the true example of God’s Love on Earth. Keegan was an angel in our hands for just a brief period of time and will be forever remembered.
Keegan was preceded in death by his sister, Charity; paternal great-grandparents Ralph and Annie Johnston, and Kenneth and Trudell “Toots” Ohler Tennant; maternal great-grandparents John and Bertha Taylor, and Russell and Patricia Ward; and an aunt, Stacy Ward.
In addition to his parents, Keegan is survived by his four siblings, Gavin, age 8, Colton, age 6, Jase, age 5 and Kelsi, 5 weeks; paternal grandparents Daniel and Cathy Tennant Johnston of Wellsburg; maternal grandparents John Ward and Connie Chase and her husband, Terry, all of Washington; aunt Rebecca Johnston of Wellsburg; two cousins, Ava and William Johnston; and numerous friends.
Family and friends will be received from noon to 3 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 22, and again from 10 until the 11 a.m. hour of service Tuesday, March 23, at the Chambers Funeral Home, Wellsburg, W.Va., (304)737-3551, with minister and friend Timothy Ferrari officiating.
Please note that limited access and social distancing will be in place during the visitation and service. All attendees will be required to wear a mask or face covering. In addition, if you are unable to attend or not feeling well, please consider sending a card or leaving an online condolence.
Interment will follow next to his great-grandparents, Kenneth and Toots, at Kadesh Chapel Cemetery, Beech Bottom, W.Va.
The family would like to thank the Weirton, Follansbee, Hanover Township, Hooverson Heights and Steubenville fire departments, Weirton Police, Hancock County EMS and the numerous community members, organizations and churches that have assisted their family during the fire and the days after. Your kindness and generosity warms their heart and eases their burden and grief.
