Estel Dale Ely
Estel Dale Ely, 95, formerly of Finleyville, died Saturday, March 27, 2021, at Arden Courts Care Center in Jefferson Hills Borough.
He was born May 11, 1925, in Mineral, Ohio, a son of Ernest and Ines Brooks Ely.
Mr. Ely was retired as an electrician with U.S. Steel Corporation’s Clairton Works.
He served in the 282nd Infantry Division of U.S. 3rd Army under General George Patton during World War II and was a Purple Heart recipient.
Dale was a member of Mingo Rod & Gun Club in Finleyville and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
Surviving are two daughters, Karen Habel (Frederick) of Meyersdale and Barbara Checque (Edward) of Finleyville; a brother, Ivan Ely of Chillicothe, Ohio; a grandson, Edward D. Checque (Robyn); four great-grandchildren, Ean, Nolan, Brynn and Dylan Checque; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are his wife, Helen Maranich Ely, who died in July of 2013; two brothers; three sisters; and a grandson, Adam Checque.
Friends will be received from noon until 2 p.m., the time of services, Tuesday, March 30, in Kegel Funeral Home, Inc., Tim P. Kegel, supervisor, David P. Kegel, director, 3560 Washington Avenue, in Finleyville. Interment will follow in Finleyville Cemetery with full military honors accorded by Mon Valley Honor Guard and Firing Squad.
