Cathryne Helen Edwards

Cathryne Helen Edwards, 75, of Burgettstown, Hanover Township, passed away Tuesday, September 28, 2021, in St. Clair Hospital, Mt. Lebanon.

She was born May 11, 1946, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Burley and Lillian George.

Cathryne graduated from Gladstone High School and completed Dental Assistant Training and Certification. Cathryne then served on the faculty of the University of Pittsburgh Dental School as a dental assistant, and a dental administrative assistant for over 25 years.

Kay, as her family and close friends called her, was an avid animal advocate and rescued over 24 animals, provided critical care, and found homes for them during her spare time.

Her husband, James Leroy Edwards, Jr., whom she married in 1965, passed away December 1, 2019. She was also preceeded in death by her sister, Nadine Dorbin.

Surviving are her four sons, Colonel Scott Douglas Edwards, USAF (Ret.) and wife Carol of Louisiana, Sean R. Edwards of Hanover Township, Jaison D. Edwards and wife Johanna Wojtaszek of Wintersville, Ohio, and Kirby L. Edwards of Munhall; 12 grandchildren, Zachary, Bryce, Nathanial, Corey, Joshua, Carrington, Melissa, Luc, Hannah, Ashlee and Lexee Edwards as well as CJ Horvwalt; five great-grandchildren, Mya and Danielle Edwards, Austin and Kylee Ganzy, and Nova Lynn Thomas; and her surviving sister, Leah George.

Friends will be received from 12 to 2 p.m., the time of a memorial service, Saturday, October 2, in the Lee & Martin Funeral Home, 73 Highland Avenue, Burgettstown.

Memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Animal Rescue League, and the Alzheimer’s Association supporting research in Alzheimers care and treatment.
