William J. “Bill” Harrison, 80, of Canonsburg, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family Thursday, September 30, 2021.

He was born March 10, 1941, in Wexford, a son of the late William Harrison and Ruth Miller Maerkle.

Bill was a graduate of Ohio Valley School of Nursing, then went on to earn a degree as nurse anesthetist from Montefiore Hospital in 1970.

In his younger years, Bill enjoyed being a hockey goalie and playing travel softball, where he was nicknamed Hollywood. He was an avid Pittsburgh Penguins fan and enjoyed playing golf. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a member of St. Patrick Church of St. Oscar Romero Parish.

On October 29, 1993 he married Deborah Moore, who survives. Also surviving are daughters, Amanda (Brian) Sholtis of Harrisburg and Brianne Harrison of Pittsburgh; step-daughters Amy (Joseph) Richter of Burgettstown and Melissa (Anthony) Impavido of Robinson; grandchildren, Mackenzie Smith, Joey, Brandy, Mary, Kathryn, Jacob and Jeffery Richter and Victoria and Anthony Impavido; brothers, Richard (Kathy) Harrison, Albert “Ace” Maerkle (Patty Mullen) and Randy Harrison; sisters, Patricia Gunnell, Karen (John) Matichko, Kathy (Jim) Goob, Denise (Ray) Klotz, Linda (Michael) Stracener, Janell (Merle), and Lori (Chuck) Varady as well as many nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to his parent, are three brothers, Ronald, Larry and Daniel Harrison.

Friends and family are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, October 3, in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra LFD owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120 where departing prayers will be recited at 9:40 a.m. Monday, October 4, a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Church of St. Oscar Romero Parish, 317 West Pike Street, Canonsburg.

Interment will follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, Coraopolis, with military honors by the United States Army.
