Leon G. Kononuk

Leon G. Kononuk, 93, of Washington, formerly of Scenery Hill, passed away Wednesday, October, 13, 2021, in Presbyterian Senior Care, Washington.

He was born April, 25 1928, in Cokeburg, a son of the late Kostik and Rose Domestic Kononuk.

Mr. Kononuk attended Ellsworth High School.

Lee was a veteran of the U.S. Army of the Korean War serving from 1952-1954. For his service he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.

Mr. Kononuk was a truck driver formerly employed by Suwak Trucking Company.

Leon was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish Bentleyville Campus, Cokeburg Moose Lodge, along with the American Legion Post #165 Bentleyville.

Mr. Kononuk especially enjoyed playing cards, and enjoyed going to the Meadows Casino.

On July, 24, 1948, he married Helen Gilmore Kononuk, who survives. They celebrated 73 years of marriage.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, is a son, Philip Kononuk of Greeley, Colo.; several nieces, and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, are a sister, Constance Kononuk; and a brother, James Kononuk.

Funeral services and burial are private, and under the direction of Greenlee’s Bentleyville Funeral Home, 619 Main Street, Bentleyville, PA 15314.
