Sylvia Alvarez Galilei
Sylvia Alvarez Galilei, 85, of Monongahela, died Thursday, October 21, 2021 in her home. She was born November 17, 1935 in Donora, to the late Florentino and Mary Garcia Alvarez.
She graduated from Monongahela High School and attended Robert Morris Business School. She later worked for Equibank and State Farm Insurance for many years.
In 1961, she married Alfred Galilei with whom she celebrated 60 years of marriage this past year. She was a lifelong member of St. Andrew the Apostle Church in Monongahela, where she was a past member of the Altar and Rosary Society and Christian Mothers. Sylvia spent much of her time volunteering at many church events.
She enjoyed spending time with her friends, including the monthly card club. She most cherished the time spent with her family, especially during the holidays.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Cecile Stivala.
She is survived by her husband, Alfred; and her children, Michele (Tom) Loftis, and David (Christy) Galilei; her grandchildren, Michael (Katie) Loftis, Matthew (Alyssa) Loftis, Maria Loftis and fiance Connor, and Lena Galilei; her sister Teresa (Larry) Spahr; along with several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 25, at St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, 722 West Main Street, Monongahela.
Due to Covid-19, masks are requested inside the church.
Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Following the funeral service, there will be a luncheon for family and friends at Nemacolin Country Club, 3100 National Pike, Beallsville, PA 15313.
