Lutha Miller
Lutha “Susie” Miller, 88, of Wheeling, W.Va., passed away Saturday, September 4, 2021, in Liza’s Place, Wheeling.
Susie was born January 12, 1933, in Wheeling, a daughter of the late William and Lutha Long Hall.
She was a retired child caregiver for the former Kid’s Club, Mount Olivet, and a retired seamstress for Spic & Span Odorless Cleaners, Wheeling. She also worked at a garment factory in South Wheeling at one time, was a former Cub Scout Den Mother in the 1950s and 1970s, and loved square dancing, camping, playing cards, sewing and crafts.
In addition to her parents, Susie was preceded in death by her first husband, William F. Gullette, in 1965; her second husband, Leroy A. Miller Jr., in 2016; a great-grandson, Chad Michael Chmiel; and siblings, William Hall, Mable Reed and Jean Magers.
She is survived by her three children, Franklin David Gullette (Shirley) of Claysville, Debra Jean Chmiel (Ed) of South Carolina, and Leroy “Chip” Miller III of Wheeling; four grandchildren, Beth Johnson of San Antonio, Texas, Renae Hutchins of Claysville, Joe Chmiel of South Carolina and Vincent Paul Chmiel of Florida; 12 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.
Also left to cherish her memory are in-laws, Bob and Darlene Miller, Charles and Judy Miller, and Edna Mae Epperly; special nieces and nephew, Norma, Betty, Judy, Nancy and their families, and Sheeran and his family; and Susie’s cherished cat, Tina.
Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, September 10, in Altmeyer Funeral Home, Elm Grove Chapel, 154 Kruger Street, Wheeling, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 11. Internment will follow in West Alexander Cemetery, West Alexander.
Susie’s family would like to give special thanks to the entire staff at Liza’s Place, Wheeling. Susie received such compassionate care while at Liza’s Place, and the family is eternally grateful.
