Lee R. Goozdich
Lee R. Goozdich, 79, of Deemston Borough, went to be with his Lord Tuesday, September, 7, 2021, surrounded by loved ones.
He was born May 3, 1942, in Royal, the youngest son of the late Mike and Julia Bartowick Goozdich.
Lee graduated from of Beth Center High School in 1961 before enlisting in the U.S. Navy, where he served during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Later he joined the U.S. Army National Guard, where he served as SFC in the 1st Battalion 104th Aviation, both Washington and Johnstown, until his retirement in 2002, completing his 24 years of service.
Upon retirement, he was the recipient of the Order of St. Michaels Bronze Award for Excellence in Army Aviation.
He had been employed as a civilian contractor by the Department of Defense as an aircraft inspector retiring after 30 years of service.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4793 Waynesburg, and the Association of Civilian Technicians.
Lee enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling, spending time with his family and “takin’ her easy”.
In October of 1963, he married the love of his life, Shirley Haught, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Dr. Lee Goozdich (Ruthann) of Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Lisa Pataski (Joey) of Erie; seven grandchildren, LaRae Kinder (who was his caretaker), Gabrielle Cogan, Hunter Pataski, Paige Tarley, Geena Goozdich, Luke Goozdich and Alec Pataski; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Virginia Zites of Fredericktown.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are a brother, Mike; and three sisters, Helen, Dorothy and Kitty.
Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, September 10, in Greenlee’s Fredericktown Funeral Home, Ltd., 42 Bank Street at Crawford Road, Fredericktown, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 11, with Pastor Brenden Byham officiating.
Entombment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park. Military Rites will be accorded graveside by the U.S. Army and the VFW Post #4793 Waynesburg.
