Merle Thomas Mathia
Merle Thomas Mathia, 76, of Canonsburg, died Monday, September 13, 2021.
He was born January 12, 1945, in Canonsburg, a son of the late Victor and Ann Cannon Mathia.
Mr. Mathia was a member of St. Oscar Romero Parish, and attended the St. Patrick worship site. He was a member of the S.N.P.J., in Strabane.
Prior to his retirement, he worked as a machinist. He loved riding his motorcycle, vacationing with his family, and was a devoted grandfather who especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s activities.
On January 20, 1968, he married Theresa Keegan Mathia, who died December 21, 2004.
Surviving are his son, Shawn Mathia, of Canonsburg; his daughter, Kelly (Jim) Sadlek of Canonsburg; three grandchildren, Kelsey (Ryan Holden), Michael and Mary Sadlek.
Friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, September 17, in Sollon Funeral and Cremation Services, LTD, 30 East College Street, Canonsburg, Phillip L. Sollon, supervisor, 724-746-1000.
Departing prayers will be held in the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 18, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Patrick Church.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
