Edmund Robert “Ed” Weise, 90, a resident of Homewood Retirement Community, Martinsburg, formerly of Canonsburg, passed away Wednesday afternoon, September 8, 2021.

He was born in Brownsville, Fayette County, son of the late Paul H. and Ruth Ann Gregg Weise.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 67 years, Margaret; his daughter, Claudia A. Weise of Hollidaysburg; his son, P. Raymond Weise (Bernice) of Ashton, Md.; a granddaughter, Karen Middlekauff Minkow (Daniel) of Winter Park, Fla.; a grandson, Paul M. Weise of Ashton, Md.; and a sister, Sarah Hall Williamson of Winter Park, Fla.

Ed was a 1948 graduate of Bridgeville, Allegheny County, High School. He also attended the Pennsylvania State University for two years, before enlisting in the Army. He was stationed at Fort Meade, Maryland, where he met his loving wife, Margaret. They were married on September 4, 1954, in Baltimore.

Ed was a US Army veteran of the Korean War serving from 1952 until 1954, attaining the rank of Corporal.

After coming home from serving his country, Ed joined his father, who was in the coal mining industry, operating deep mines near Canonsburg. Ed then secured employment as a procurement engineer, in Pittsburgh, which he did for nearly 40 years, working for Heyl & Patterson, Rust Engineering, U.S. Steel, R.T. Patterson, and others.

He was lifetime member of the United Methodist Church, which Ed attended in Bridgeville and Canonsburg, Washington County, for 50 years and, most recently, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Roaring Spring.

Ed was a member of the United Methodist Men and served as a Gideon for the Blair Southern Camp. He was also a member of Bridgeville Post #54 of the American Legion, a long-time member of the NRA and a devoted fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

At 16, he and his high school pals hiked the Appalachian Trail, twice. Ed personally visited each state in our great nation, and was a proud patriot who always had “Old Glory” on display.

Among his favorite pastimes were hunting, gardening, and playing “Mr. Fix-it” at home or at church.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 28, at the First United Methodist Church, 161 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, where a casual luncheon will follow at the church.

Guests are also welcome to later join the family for a military honors service to be held at 2 p.m. at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, 1158 Morgan Road, Bridgeville.

The family requests that only COVID vaccinated people attend the services.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Red Cross.
