John R. Williams, Jr.
John R. “Chef Burger” Williams, Jr., 64, of Washington, died Wednesday, April 13, 2022 in Transitions Healthcare, Washington.
He was born April 7, 1958, in Washington, a son of the late John R. Williams, Sr. and Barbara Ann Coleman Johnson.
After high school, Mr. Williams joined the U.S. Navy from 1976 through 1980, where he worked as an aviation electrician, and on the flight deck.
After the military, he went on to attend technical school and became a certified nurse’s assistant.
His biggest passion was being a chef. He worked for 4 Star Pizza, Shoney’s and TGI Fridays, from where he retired after a neck injury requiring surgery.
He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, Washington.
He came out of retirement to work with Joyce Ellis as the food director at the LeMoyne Center. He was so dedicated to his passion that, even in the throes of hospice, he would state that he “had to go to work.”
Surviving are his wife and partner of 30 years, Monika, of Washington; a son, John R. Williams, III., of Washington; a daughter, Asia Chandler of Columbus, Ohio; a brother, Aaron Williams, of Washington; a sister, Rhee Ellis, of Washington; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and his lifelong friend, Veora Sapington.
Friends will be received for a memorial service at 4 p.m. on Monday, April 18, 2022, in the LeMoyne Center, 200 N. Forrest Avenue, Washington, PA 15301, with Reverend Richard White officiating.
All other services will be private.
